The Via - Canada's rail system

Written by: Dan

As I write this I am travling on the Via (http://www.viarail.com/).  I have a meeting tomorrow in Ottawa Canada.  Flights from Detroit to Ottawa were about $1,000 each, and not direct either.  We opted to instead to take the train in from Windsor.

This is not a bad way to travel.  No long security lines.  I just showed up a half an hour before departure.  The seats are large, with a ton of leg room.  No middle seats.  Plenty of room.  I would say about equivelant to first class on a plane, if not larger.  Each seat has internet and power.   Also, while I write I get to see much of Canada's country side.  I'm around London Ontario now, headed to Toronto.  At that point I have a quick layover, and off to Ottowa.

I am sure by the time I arrive to Ottawa I will be sick of this train, but for now it is quite exciting.

Update - few hours later: still not sick of it.  We had a "layover" in Toronto.  We had a private lounge with free drinks to wait in.  We left the lounge for a little bit to explore Toronto.  You can do this since there is no long lines, medal detectors, or exrays taking pictures of your privates.  Once back on the train, the service started where it left off.  More free drinks - I've moved from wine to Baileys now - and another meal.  Same Susuki app, but beef instead of Salmon for dinner this time.  Not a bad way to go.  View is neat too.  Rustic, like Ohio, except not as crappy.  This place has hills and such.
