Alcatraz

Today was one of the days we’d been looking forward to the most on this trip—our visit to Alcatraz. Or, as we kept calling it, "Marley’s first visit to Alcatraz." I had been there once, about 30 years ago, but it was a first for everyone else.

It did not disappoint.

From the ferry ride across the bay to the steep walk up to the cell block, the whole experience was amazing. When we booked tickets weeks ago, I figured we’d stay an hour or two. We ended up spending most of the day there—there was just that much to see.

After our tour of “The Rock,” we headed to Buena Vista for some original Irish Coffees, a couple of Guinnesses, and some appetizers. Then it was a quick trip back to the hotel to rest before dinner at Cioppino’s on the water.

We’ve now sampled seafood, sourdough and chowder, and classic Italian. Tomorrow, we take on Chinatown—making this quite the culinary tour of San Francisco.
