Our last Day in San Francisco

Today was our last day in San Francisco. We weren’t sure how long we’d stick around before starting the 3+ hour drive to our rental house near Yosemite—but we ended up staying most of the day.

We kicked things off with another ride on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus since Annie missed the full tour yesterday. This is exactly her kind of thing—history and a guide. This time, instead of heading back on the bus after the Golden Gate Bridge, we took an Uber to Sausalito for lunch.

I had visited Sausalito years ago when Dennis lived there, and I wanted to show the rest of the family how some people live and commute in and out of the city. To do that, we hopped on the ferry from Sausalito to get back to Fisherman’s Wharf. It gave us a completely perspective view—not just of how people get to work, but also a different visual perspective of San Francisco from the water. Everyone agreed it was the perfect final trip around the bay.

The only downside? Timing. I thought we’d be on the road by noon. We left at 4 p.m.—right in time for rush hour. Our 3+ hour trip stretched to nearly five. Still, it was a memorable drive. We took the Bay Bridge through Oakland and northward, so the kids got to see the “other” bridge and the other side of the city.

As we were driving out, the kids were playing on their iPads. I overheard Marley say, “Look, you’re in San Francisco!” as Lainey's ROBLOX character passed a cable car. Lainey chimed in, “I think I’m actually in Sausalito now.”

So, hey—they’re learning something as we go. 😊
